A tough match away to Gerard's Cross and Fulmer this week. Last time the girls visited this venue, the weather was appalling with driving rain and freezing conditions; this time, the match was just as tough, even if the conditions were better. From the kick off, the girls looked bright and determined as they pushed the opposition back into their own half. Despite the pressure, there were no clear chances until on 10 minutes, Alexia's threatening corner was turned in by Lily to make it 1-0 and no more than we deserved. For the next 10 minutes the girls played well, with some nice passing movements around opposition players who looked confident when they got the ball. This was definitely the way to play against this team, and when Gerard's Cross equalised on the half hour, it was against the general run of play; it finished 1-1 at half time. Not long into the second half, the home team scored again after a handball was not seen by the referee; this goal seemed to change the game, the Panthers increasingly started to play the longer ball and attacking players were joining the backline as the opposition did to us as we had done to them in the first half. Although the girls had chances to draw level, most notably when Jueun hit the crossbar with a nice header, the pressure was on us and we conceded another goal with 10 minutes to go. The girls didn't give up and continued to try to play forward, but time was slipping away and the match finished at 1-3. Player of the match was Karlina, for some excellent work in defence, displaying pace strength and skill.
