Gutsy win for the Panthers!

Gutsy win for the Panthers!

Defending like Lionesses today...

Another fantastic win for the Panthers today, though in very different circumstances to last week. This was a hard-fought game where we were under the cosh for long spells, often penned back in our own half. At first, I thought it was just the wind, but even with it behind us in the second half we still had to dig deep defensively.

What really impressed me was how well the girls applied themselves. They’ve been brilliant at making sure the ball doesn’t drop and hit the floor — just getting something on it to stop the opposition breaking through. That work, and the murder-ball drill, is clearly paying off.

Our defence was outstanding. Karlina, Amelia, Rosie and Phoebe were rock-solid, and with Phoebe on the left and Lily on the right in those wing-back roles, we effectively had five defenders without the ball, which made a huge difference. It’s tiring work, and Aster, Florence, and Lily ran themselves into the ground today — brilliant effort.

We had a golden 10-minute spell where Jueun took both her chances superbly. She has been sensational this season, scoring goals for fun — I’d bet she reaches 40+ goals this year from midfield (that's my prediction), which would be remarkable. Alexia worked tirelessly alongside her, while Elise, Lois, and Emma all played their part.

Player of the Match went to Lois, who was fantastic throughout, and I’m really proud of her again today.

Florence up front set the tone with her energy and pressing, constantly hassling their defence. A special mention must go to Brooke and Elise for stepping in as keepers. With Teagan missing, it was a big ask, but they both did brilliantly. Going in goal can be daunting, but they were composed, brave, and did the team proud.

We came so close to a clean sheet too, only conceding in the final 30 seconds of the match. By then it felt like we were going to see it out, and I was glad to hear the final whistle. The opposition are definitely one of the top sides in this division, so to come away with three points against them is an amazing achievement.

That makes it three wins from three against tough opposition. The other side were strong today, but our defending and team spirit carried us through. Huge credit to everyone — enjoy the weekend, girls, you’ve earned it!
