The prestigious award was presented at the annual awards evening at Stadium MK in July, bringing together clubs and volunteers from across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire to recognise the people who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to grassroots football.

For WWGFC, the award is a fantastic recognition of the club’s continued growth and the huge contribution made by its coaches, volunteers, players, parents and supporters.

Based at the heart of the Wargrave community, WWGFC provides opportunities for girls and women to enjoy football in a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment. The club has grown significantly over recent years, providing a pathway for players from junior football right through to the women’s game.

The evening also saw two WWGFC volunteers recognised individually for their contribution to the club.

Martin Woods was nominated for Grounds Team of the Year, recognising the enormous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure players have pitches on which to train and play throughout the season.

Beks Crook was also nominated for New Volunteer of the Year, highlighting the difference that new volunteers can make to grassroots clubs and the wider football community.

Having three nominations across the awards made the evening particularly special for WWGFC and demonstrated the breadth of volunteering that keeps the club running.

Winning Club of the Year is ultimately a team achievement. Like grassroots clubs everywhere, WWGFC relies on an army of volunteers who coach teams, organise fixtures, maintain pitches, manage safeguarding, run events and tournaments, raise funds and carry out countless other jobs behind the scenes.

The award is therefore a celebration not just of what happens on the pitch, but of the community that has developed around the club.

WWGFC would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the club’s success and, most importantly, the players who make it all worthwhile.

It is a proud moment for the club — and for grassroots football in Wargrave.
