Season Summary: Very much a season of 2 halves for the Lions who started their first 7 a side season with heavy losses in their first 3 games. The girls did not let these early set backs stop their desire and commitment to improve and when the Autumn cup competition came around were beginning to gel as a team. After some very tough games the Lions reached the final of the cup and went on to beat Caversham 4-0 to win their first silverware.
Both David and myself could not be more proud of how the girls have not only improved as footballers but have created a team spirit where success is shared and disappointment overcome. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the games on a Saturday morning and am so impressed with the standard the girls have reached – they should all be rightly proud of what they have accomplished and the improvements they have made this season. Finally a well done to all the Lions who have been a pleasure to coach this season. Mark Usher U9s Lions Coach
|Players Player||Eliza Vann||Eliza joined us mid season and has provided real fire power up front scoring vital goals|
|Coaches Player||Imogen Dean||Imogen has played in every position with confidence, scored many goals include one hat trick, and gave 110% in every match|
|Most Improved Player||Millie Brown||Millie has listened to the coaches and taken on the advice as a defender in matches|
Season Summary: Significant improvement has been made this season with the U9 Wargrave Tigers on course to win their first silverware with two comprehensive wins (4-1 against Holyport and 2-0 against Reading LA Belles) in the Spring cup until the season was cut short last month. The Tigers have come a long way since last September when they lost 4-0 in their first match of the season. Since then every single player has improved, the team are passing to each other, and most importantly the girls are really enjoying their football!.
Rich Bookless and I have been so impressed with the team spirit and how the season has progressed, and it was ultimately a very difficult job selecting the player awards (as it was for the players given how close their voting was!). A special mention to Rosa Mullins and Josh Shapland – Rosa had to stop playing at the end of last year due to illness; I’m pleased to confirm Rosa is much better now and all coaches, parents and players look forward to seeing her playing football next season. Josh joined the U9 Coaches to help out at training and matches, and his insights and support has been very much appreciated.
Lastly many congratulations to all the girls for their efforts this season and making the coaches so proud!
